Une Bardot Moment
my francais moment continues and can't get that Bardot girl out of my head. maybe because of this retrospective i remember seeing around Paris late last year but there is something about Ms. Bardot that seems kinda relevant, no? maybe it's that pure, fun girlishness without an ounce of pretension - where pretty is simply pretty. enough of the dark, brooding styles and let's have some fun again - fashion and beauty is all about imagination and escapism and, especially nowadays, we need it more than ever...

Icon: Helmut Lang
there is a definite Helmut Lang feeling in the air and it just feels so right for now. it's hard to describe but that cool, real clothing vibe that is modern, intelligent, edgy, stylish, and essentially classic is so hard to come by and only Mr. Lang could deliver that. i still have and cherish a couple of Helmut Lang pieces i can't dare to part with - especially my distressed jean jacket with the just-so-perfect-skinny-sleeve that really is hard to come by nowadays. sigh. it's sometimes hard to remember Helmut Lang then and see what passes off under his name nowadays - it's just not the same at all. so, in honor of the man himself, here are some beloved images of Helmut Lang ....

Cindy Crawford by Herb Ritts, Rolling Stones 1993
this takes me back. i remember getting this issue and being so excited. cindy was my favorite supermodel at the time - she wasn't a linda or christy of high fashion but, i guess, just simply cindy. it was cool to see her on this rolling stone cover because it eclipsed past something more than just fashion and into that realm of pop culture. she was now more than a mere supermodel. before the heidi klums or gisele bundchens of nowadays, there was cindy. no one could touch her. and cindy shot by herb ritts was just, beyond beyond. here are a few shots of the beautifulness from that issue ...

Give Me Meisel or Give Me Death: Lucie de la Falaise, Vogue December 1993
i think this was Mr. Meisel's first major American Vogue cover. he shot Lucie de la Falaise, daughter of Loulou and muse of YSL.
The Cool Kids
from the december 1996 Vogue - an editorial about the new style set. here were the biggest models of the moment shot by Mario Testino - dressed down 90s style. i remember being a gawky 14 year old and loving the effortless nonchalance and fun of this image and wishing i could be a part of that cool brigade hopefully someday.
